Suggest Treatment For Bad Odor From Feet

default
Posted on Fri, 8 May 2015
Question: Hi, I've been suffering from stinky feet for 7 years now. My feet would smell even with shoes on, if I walk into a room the smell creates some sort of zone, even if your not sitting beside me you could clearly smell it across the room. I smell with or without shoes on. I've read a lot of comments and articles, it seems like there are few out there suffering from the same problem, though none of them applied any solution. A year ago the smell become more stronger, that I can't even go out with friends, more worse I can't go to work anymore, trying to figure out something to solve this issue. I've tried a huge variety of home remedies, bought products both online and retail store, been to doctors, done botox injections to stop feet from sweating, yet no improvement. Please help me out, I'm hopeless, I've been fighting this for years and yet nothing have changed, I really need help!

Brief Answer:
Aluminium chloride hexahydrate 20% might help

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through the details in your query and I hope to help you as much as I can.

Human sweat is odorless. The bad Odor in sweat is due to the action of bacteria that reside on skin.
Apart from continuing to maintain good hygiene practices, measures to reduce excess sweat would help counter body odor too.
If I was the treating doctor I would suggest you to use aluminium chloride hexahydrate 20% lotion, once daily at night.
It is available on prescription of a dermatologist.
Aluminium chloride hexahydrate is also a common ingredient in deodorants.
The mechanism of action is that it blocks the sweat duct and thus reduces sweat output.
It is also antibacterial and therefore has a dual mode of action.
Another treatment option is 10% glutaraldehyde soaks.
Sites that produce the most sweat e.g palms, soles, axilla are the main targets of this product.
These can also be combined with local injections of botulinum toxin for maximal results.
Botulinum toxin inhibits the local nerve pathway that causes sweat secretion and thus would prove beneficial by reducing sweat.

Also let me know what all products have you tried?

Thank you so much for this detailed answer, though the problem remains as your suggestions are under prescription. I've been to another doctor today, well clearly the smell of my feet was covering the room but he couldn't recall anything which might be causing this smell. I took a blood test and next week I will be taking a skin test. I've read a huge amount of comment regarding Boracic Acid. DO you think it might do the trick by applying it to my feet?

Brief Answer:
Boric acid is also an option

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Yes, boric acid is another option but it can cause irritation, contact sensitivity and has a limited effectiveness.

20% aluminum hexachloride Or aluminium chloride hexahydrate in absolute anhydrous ethyl alcohol is more commonly used as the first-line topical agent.

It should be applied nightly on dry skin with or without occlusion until a positive result is obtained, after which the intervals between applications may be lengthened.
