Posted on Tue, 20 Sep 2016
Question: Hi
I have benign fasiculation syndrome( BFS). My doctor gave me Baclofen but it didn't help me. I have not used anything for my syndrome yet. My syndrome gets worse than 18 months ago when it diagnosed. I want to know is any medicine for BFS or not to help me. My symptomes are muscle twitching in my feets and legs and the worst symptom which I can not bear anymore is spasm in my esophagus.

Brief Answer:
Several alternatives

Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

There are several options for the treatment of benign fasciculation syndrome. They do not cure the condition but alleviate its symptoms in most patients. As I said there are several alternatives different ones may work better in different patients.

Baclofen is used sometimes but is not the first alternative I usually use. I would prefer an antiseizure medication like Gabapentin or Pregabalin since they are effective in BFS and are also beneficial in anxiety.

Another possibility is a beta blocker like Propranolol. Magnesium supplementation is also commonly used, it may be used alongside the other options as an addition, not necessarily alone.

I remain at your disposal for other questions.
