Suggest Treatment For Bilateral Ovarian Cysts

Posted on Wed, 15 Feb 2017
Question: Diagnosed in December with bilateral ovarian cysts. Left side simple 2cm. Right side complex 5cm. At six week follow up the right has grown to 6cm. I want to take a conservative approach. So Doctor agreed to 6 weeks on birth control Lo loestrin and check up in March. If no shrinkage will have surgery with intent to remove cyst and save ovaries. The pain is tolerable with Tylenol and occasional Vicadin for pain. Do you think I taking a big risk waiting 6 weeks?

Brief Answer:
get tumour markers done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to HCM,
If the right sided cyst is complex cyst, it is important to rule out ovarian cancer with TUMOUR MARKERS ( CA-125, CEA, AFP. beta-HCG, CA-19.9) and a CT SCAN to rule out any solid cystic components, septations inside the complex cyst which would be indicative of tumour.
6 weeks course with birth control pills if offered for simple cyst and not for complex cysts which can be dermoid, endometriotic or ovarian tumour.
