Question: Hello Dr Rynne,
I have Bi polar, antanex is NOT par of my regular medication but i take it when manic,I have been very manic latley, i have caused harm to my family and reputation. anatenex works very well in those episodes, ian extended episode.. psychatrist away till end of XXXXXXX family is going away till after new yr. must take this pill to relax and be safe in my room, instead of scarying neibbhood children. Please help me. XXXXXXX Petersen

Thanks for choosing HCM for your health related queries

You are a known case of Bipolar Disorder and have no access to psychiatrist and family is also going out.

Antanex is Diazepam and the drug is a benzodiazepine drug. The drug is used as good sedative and hypnotic. It helps to reduce aggression by reducing anxiety and inducing good sleep. But the drug is not an anti-manic drug. You have anger episodes for which the drug can be used on need basis (SOS) but I am afraid continuous use will not result in much benefit.

As currently you have no access to psychiatrist so for that period the drug can be used to induce sleep but take the drug with proper prescription only. Visit your psychiatrist as soon as he arrives for treatment of mania. Engage your self in exercise, relaxation training, yoga, meditation to keep away anger.
