Question: I haven't been to the dentist is several years and I have a couple black spots on my teeth. I also have noticed some grey spots and my tongue seems to be a yellow color. Usually after I brush my teeth and tongue the colors goes away but will come back through the day depending on what I eat and drink. I am really nervous to go to the dentist. What could it be?

Here are my teeth and tongue. Do you think the black spots can be filled or does a root canal have to be done?

Hello ,

Welcome again .

I have read your query and gone through the images you have attached as far as I have observed you have deep proximal caries in premolar tooth so for this I will suggest you to consult good Endodontist for clinical examination and Intraoral periapical radiograph . If radiograph (xray) reveals caries has involved pulp of tooth then treatment done is Root canal treatment and if caries doesnt reaches pulp region of tooth then restoration (filling) can be done .
As far as yellowish discoloration of tongue is concerned this is due to improper cleaning of tongue . For this I will suggest you to use tongue scraper to clean your tongue regularly after brushing . Use mouthwash . Take vitamin B supplements .

Hope I have answered your query .
If you have further query feel free to ask I will be happy to help.

Hello XXXX,

Welcome again .

I have read your query and understand your concern . See what happened is when carious teeth left untreated then caries progress and infection reaches the apex of root and tooth decayed . So nothing there is nothing serious but you have to consult dentist and go for treatment as early as possible . Dont get nervous and take stress . Be relaxed . Restoration or Root canal treatment both are painless and simple procedure . Dont get panic . Go for treatment .

Hope I have answered your query .
If you have further query feel free to ask I will be happy to help you .
