Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Hi, I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.
Fever with Chills with frequency and burning in urine is most commonly due to Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) which needs evaluation of the cause, so that he doesn't get the repeat episodes.
The most common causes of UTI are Diabetes, Stones in renal tract and Prostate Enlargement.
Yes, UTI and Sepsis can cause severe dehydration leading to electrolyte imbalances. He needs an Ultrasound Abdomen and Urine culture. No antibiotics should be started before giving a sample of urine culture, otherwise the report can be affected.
Once the sample is taken your doctors will start him on antibiotics and will modify the antibiotics based on the urine culture and sensitivity report which takes 72 hours.
Ultrasound will also rule out any Prostate enlargement and treatment would be decided based on the size and echo-texture of the prostate.
His blood sugars should be checked and if found high, he would require medicines for that.
Also, he should be given Intravenous fluids to fight with the dehydration.
This is my personal opinion based on details available here.
If you still have any other query, you may please ask me.
Stay Healthy.
Dr Anshul Varshney , MD
