Suggest Treatment For Blisters On The Chin
Question: My wife has developed blisters on her chin, varying in colour from red to black, and oozing orange pus. They are very painful. She has also developed sores in her mouth which also hurt. There is constant, throbbing pain from both the external blisters and internal mouth sores. Her dentist has confirmed there is no tooth abcess, and a doctor has prescribed antibiotics and an anti-viral medicine. We do wonder, however, whether her condition might be due to poison oak, poison sumac or poison ivy, as she was doing some pruning in the garden shortly before the symptoms began, and was hit in the face by a falling lilac branch. But that would not explain the sores in her mouth, would it? Also she says her whole face feels as if it has a fever. Thanks for any insights you can provide us!
Brief Answer:
Either herpes infection or drug reaction, poison ivy unlikely
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
I am Dr Asmeet Kaur Sawhney, a dermatologist.
According to your complaints it can be either herpes infection or any drug reaction.
Chances of poison ivy are very unlikely considering her oral cavity involvement.
I would recommend her to continue with the antibiotic and antiviral treatment.
Moreover ask her to apply a topical antibiotic like neosporin ointment or mupirocin cream on the affected areas twice daily and take anti inflammatory medicines like ibuprofen.
This should resolve her symptoms in 1-2 weeks.
