Question: My wife 49 yrs of age is taking TONOFERON IRON SYRUP SINCE LAST 6 MONTHS.TOO MUCH GAS IS FORMED BECAUSE OF THIS TONOFERON AND SHE HAS TO TAKE SOMETIMES TWO TABLETS TO REDUCE GAS FORMATION.NOW SHE COMPLAINS OF VERY LESS APPETITE.WHAT COULD BE THE REASON.
Brief Answer:
Perhaps of anemia +/- infection
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I understand your concern. Iron is a potent gastric acid supplement. Abdominal fullness / bloating and pain are common associated complaints. I guess the doctor added drugs to suppress acid secretions.
Loss of appetite on the other hand has various causes. From your description I think of anemia and recent infection as the likely cause. Remotely, medicines used to suppress acid can cause reduced appetite.
In this instance, I would stop antacid drugs. Continue tonoferon syrup, may be take them after food. Encourage her to eat fruits and vegetables. Reassess the condition say after a week. Consult her doctor if things don't improve.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.
Regards
