Suggest Treatment For Blocked Nose, Cough And Breathing Problem
Question: Hello my 3.5 months old pre term daughter is suffering from severe nose block, breathing problem and cough. Pls suggest some medicine to recover.

Hi XXXXXXX I perceive that your baby daughter is suffering from a viral illness or flu. Cough and cold are viral 95% of the times in children. For cold you can use anti-allergics like cetirizine and for nose block, saline nasal decongestants will do.
For cold you can use Cetirizine at 0.25mg/kg/dose every 12 hourly for 3 days. This is a prescription medicine and I suggest you consult your paediatrician for the same.
For nasal block, plain saline nasal drops will do, every 4-6th hourly to relive nasal congestion.
Cough suppressants are not recommended at this age and make the baby too drowsy.
I have a few questions for you -
1. You said Preterm baby, can you please explain me delivery history?
2. What was her birth weight and current weight?
3. Is she feeding from the mother's breast or bottle?
4. Was she hospitalized and if so how long and what was done in the hospital during admission?

3. On mothers feed but top feed nan pro 1 once daily upto 90ml.
4. she was not admitted in the hospital since then but diagnosed hernia on the right side after1.5 month suggested surgery for that.
