Suggest Treatment For Blood And Mucus In Stool While Having IBS

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Jun 2016
Question: I'm a thirty-three year old make, with a history of IBS for the last three years. Stools are often accompanied by mucus, are seldom solid, and I go to the bathroom 3-4 times a day. Stomach often feels dusrupted. Twice in this last month though my stool was accompanied by mucus with bright red blood that entirely passed by the end of the stool, so it was definitely internal. Blood work done last year. Clear. I'm concerned... Thank you in advance!

Hi and thank you for asking!
I read carefully all your concerns and I can say as follows :
1.You are reporting to have mucous plus red blood stools. With regards to red blood stool it may be related with anal hemorroids or anal fissure due to solid stools.
2. Mucous on stools me be related with IBS too.
Otherwise If you haven't done the colonoscopy I would prefer to do it.
3. Meantime I would suggest to :
- use plenty of water
- use foods reached in fibers
- use olive oil
- use preparation H at anal region.
Hope it was helpful to you.
If you have other concerns I would be glad to assist you.

Regarding the blood in my stool:

-my stools are NEVER solid though
-my anal region is often slightly sore when wiping after passing stools
-the blood is always bright red and mixed in with mucus- never the stool itself

Could it still be an anal fissure or hemarroids even if the stools aren't solid and the blood is mixed in with the mucus?

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
with regards to bright red blood on stool (even mixed with mucous)it indicates that the blood comes from anal ring , the lower part of the rectum.
The most probable cause of it is hemorroids or anal fissure.
Otherwise since you have in teased the amount of mucous I would suggest to do colonoscopy to better evaluate large bowel mucosa.
