Suggest Treatment For Bone Pain In The Shoulders, Forearms And Legs

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Dec 2016
Question: Hello, I have been suffering from mild bone aches in shoulders, forearms, legs (more on the knees) for quite sometime now. Another problem that is bothering me is severe numbness in my hands and finger joints (fingers , wrist, palm, finger tips) when i wake up in the morning. To get some relief i have to several hand stretch exercises.

Apart from this an older complaint is getting slight numbness on the arm of the side that i am lying on in bed (i don't put my weight on my arm), as soon as i lie on the other side the numbness and tingling goes away and gradually builds in the other arm. Though this is not as severe as the numbness in my hands at morning (very mild during day). i have started taking calcium and vid D along with Ato Z multivitamins since a week now.

Is there anything else that i could do to get this cured, or may go for some tests?
My mother and wife are also facing the same problem of numbness in hands.

Brief Answer:
Vit B12 deficiency

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX, I am Dr Gopal Goel, Orthopedic Surgeon.
You have mild bone pains in shoulders, forearms, legs (more on the knees) and numbness in hands and finger joints in the morning.
This kind of pain in a person of your age is uncommon and generally could only be explained by deficiency of vitamins , mainly VIt B12 and Vit D. You have already started on Vit D3 .
I would suggest that you get S Vit 12 , S Vit D3 , CBC with ESR , R A Factor - all blood tests.
In addition to what you are taking , start a combination of vit B12 + pregabalin.
Since the problem is in the family- it is more likely to be vitamin deficiency.
I hope to have answered your question. Please feel free to ask any further questions.
