Question: hello, my name is XXXXXXX i am a 50 year old woman who has never had a relationship that lasted for longer than 7 years. i have 2 ex-husbands, which i never thought would happen to me, and i just broke up with my boyfriend of nearly a year. i am wondering if i might have borderline personality disorder after reading some of the symptoms. I have problems with controlling my anger at times and sometimes find myself with men who do, too (though not always, sometimes it is more me); have chronic feelings of emptiness; i can be moody, though not with family and friends, only with men i'm in a relationship with; pattern of intense and stormy relationships - though, again, only with the men that i date; and i often have panicked, frantic reactions to abandonnment.
does this sound like bpd to you? i don't want to keep pushing the me away in my life. i want to finally have a relationship that lasts, and if i am the reason they haven't, i really want to change that. i long for a peaceful, happy relationship but find it so elusive.
any advise would be greatly appreciated - thank you very much!
XXXXXXX

The symptoms, which you have mentioned, are more towards borderline personality, but it does not mean that you would not able to maintain relationship. Number of people have personality issues, but they maintain their life very well. With age, personality issues get dissolve and does not cause major effect in relationship. If you are thinking, everything wrong happen in your life is due to personality, that is not correct. May be you are choosing wrong person or other person were not compatible to you. That means, it is personality issues in other rather than you. There is some reason behind every failure and you should try to find the reasons, why you are getting problems in maintaining relationships.
