Question: A very old post and crown broke off (front tooth). had a consult, was told it will cost $4,500.00 for an implant. $3,500.00 if i choose a bridge, .... I do have the crown( tooth) Was told that the old post was made of some material that is almost impossible to remove without fracturing the tooth stub and that an endodontist would do that part but very difficult and approximately $1,200.00 just to remove pin. Was i given good advice or is their a less expensive alternative ???? HELP !

Brief Answer:
redo the post and core, implant

Detailed Answer:
thanks for your query, i have gone through your query. if only the crown has broken with an intact post then we can rebuild the tooth structure and repeat the crown. if the tooth crown is broken along with the post then we have to remove the post and redo with fibre post. it will help to retain the crown for some time but cant predict the durability. regarding the cost its better to go for implant rather than bridge if sufficient bone support is there, no habit history and diabetes..
if the tooth structure is gone very badly then its better to go for extraction and get an implant done rather than a bridge.

If i was your treating doctor i would have suggested you to go for removal of the tooth if sufficient tooth structure is not there or if it is not possible to redo the post. if the tooth is removed then get it replaced by an implant since for a bridge we need to grind adjacent teeth or sometimes they need RCT also. so in implant we will be placing a screw inside the bone and giving a crown.

try to save the natural tooth if it is in good condition otherwise it is indicated for extraction. i personally do not advise bridge in front teeth area. better to go for implant rather than bridge depending upon the amount of bone present.
i hope my answer will help you. take care. if any queries are there reply me back.
