Suggest Treatment For Breathing Difficulty While Having Emphysema

default
Posted on Mon, 11 Jul 2016
Question: So I have this open thread and I have a premium question open. Two different accounts. I opened this one as hcm renewed my next month subscription and I had an issue to complain about. Complaint is about myself and an understanding of my breathing.

I have listed things numerous times, always to reassure myself. I have no indicators of air trapping. , I have no outward sings or symptoms that identify emphysema.

Please clarify that the inflammation from anxiety can make breathing labored in the air in or out is harder because of inflammation and that when it is inflamed......... Any effort or exertion makes it more difficult.

I have a tight feeling on an inhale and the muscles in my back are tight. It just has to be the inflammation. Correct.

Oh I'm already disappointed for my weekend trip but I waited till now that I'm back in the other house to mention that my current wife found a way to go along so I had only a partial relaxing weekend

Give the following some good thought and then respond. It may be just a quick thought because of what you know of me but I will put it to you.

Before I state the question I will say first that I have read an article from Online Stress and Anxiety center who explains the fundamentals of that disease and says that
a. Extended periods of continuous stress builds on previous events of the release of mediators and compounds it to great levels and takes a long time to eliminate.
B. You have agreed to this in certain terms. and you added that the mediators attack lungs hardest. You never explained the attack on the lungs very clearly but you did say it.

I am walking around with high stress today, stress that is compounded by non reducing prior anxiety attacks.
I went from my office to different areas of the company looking for a package that arrived while I was gone. The trip through the store had me tight in chest and I have to assume that the excess mediators is triggering the inflammation

Air in , Air out affected by Inflammation. What causes the tightness,
We have forgot to discuss the possible Central Obesity that could be pushing up on diaphragm keeping it from dropping to let air move..

I was uncomfortable going around building with my breathing. I was feeling better when I sat back down. FVC is in great range, Fev1 is in great range. the Ration is acceptable. No elevated RV so Those indicators say no organic disease, so what exactly is causing the tightness in chest to make inhaling more difficult when ribs or lower area not wish to expand to let air in.

Remember, no indicators of RV or no lung issues on FEV or FVC Just FEF25-75

Explain Please

Brief Answer:
In your case stress affects lungs more.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Now you asked from another thread . This is a bit confusing.
Again long question. How I love to read your long questions.
They show that you are too much worried for your symptoms and I think this is the root cause for all your stress, anxiety and breathing difficulty.
I see many opd patients who think too much about their illness land up in having more symptoms as compare to others who don't do much thinking.
I think this is universal problem in majority of patients.
Stress causes inflammation in the body.
In your case this inflammation is more affecting lungs so you are developing breathing difficulty.
There is no theory which can predict why lungs are more involved and not other organs.
May I tell you one truth?
Only if you don't mind.
I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Tell me a truth,

First, you are getting many threads, I have two (2) UNLIMITED ACCOUNTS, as of last Friday, I used up the unlimited limit. (yes HCM has a limit on Unlimited). When I ran out of unlimited, I used the Expensive account to keep a chat going. Right after I paid for that question, HCM renewed the other accounts for the next month.

As you mentioned, you had been to busy to respond right away, and I had another question to ask in the meantime so I opened the new renewal threads and asked you the question. So we had two open, the expensive question is now used up so you will only hear on this one.

Now ask away. I never say no

I am going to give you what I believe has happened to make me continuously think of it.

I first got these symptoms and they were with me for a short period. They happened shortly after my mother died. Now you must understand that as I watched mo die from COPD, she would tell me of conditions, symptoms, feelings etc. I remember quite a few.

Now Mom died in Dec 2012, the beginning of this was in April of 2012. A series of events prior to her death and a number of events after but before april were quite stressful and increased the anxiety. The sensations I felt were similar in nature to what mom described. That etched something in my mind to make me think i had same symptom or symptoms. Tight Chest, Limited inflow, some SOB.

I said this lasted a short time or I was able to block it out. I had a couple minor SOB events in that summer but I attributed it to increasing Organic Lung disease but I began to do less activity and I stopped noticing it.

By March or April of 2013 I triggered it again when I tried to do exercise and activity that took my breath away. Again there was some increased level of Stress and when the breath was SOB, it raised the Anxiety to level that has been with me since.

Since you have seen my PFT and you emphasize that as you read my PFT and cannot find organic disease
My Testing Pulmonologist looked at tests and find nothing,
Previous pulm up in home town did not say much other than Bronchial Asthma. Nothing to do with COPD.

The lack of visual improvement to my situation always has me worrying of my future health of not breathing. So I use my time to understand if i have missed something or am looking at a continuous slow progressive disease that has begun or

I just have to understand what Anxiety, mediators, inflammation, and constant thinking can do to me.

I had a very mild anxious behaviour about my heart 11 years ago, I spent time in the garden on my hands and knees and it seemed to help. I want to rest/sleep because i am always tired and I believe that is from stressing so much. But i also am afraid that lack of exercise is not doing me anygood with no pulmonary and coronary exercise

Mom started smoking at 13 she smoked unfiltered ciggarettes.
Though I thought she quit for a few years, I was wrong she just cut down and hid her smoking from everyone.
I believe her first PFT was in 2003 or 2004 she was 82 or 83. She quit right away, I will assume that she smoked for 70 years.
My oldest brother died in 1999 and Mom and I flew to his home in another state. I remember moving through the airport and she was having a hard time breathing then. So say she had early signs at 77+ yrs old smoked for 60+ years. before it started
Never saw her PFT, She never asked for it, I think she only took one test. And It was in moderate stage I think.

I told all of this to my local Pulmonologist for a family history record and he made a comment

He said that she smoked quite a while before the disease took over her life. He said that indicated some strong form or ability to hold it off.
He said that I only smoked for a brief period in comparison, and that sometimes we can inherit the immunity or the ability to hold off the bad things like COPD. He said that He believed that I should live a long life if i relax, never smoke again, take care of my health and stay away from noxious things that could hurt the tender lungs.

Another long thread,

Moms PFT ???? but I think was not good
She had Emphysema first Bronchitis Second.
She coughed up quite a bit of phlegm
She was on O2 24/7 for last 2 years of life.
She always complained of inability to eat much because it pressed on her lungs. My guess is her upper lungs worked very little and she had little of the lower left and when stomach was full, it pressed on her lungs.

She smoked a long time
Her last 3 years were the worst, the decline that she had was devistating.

No, In fact I do not know who she visited, it was once and a very long time ago. She went to the pulmonologist with my sister present. My sister is now dead, so I cant ask her.

I could ask her regular physician to see if her records are still on file and if so, could someone go find a copy of the pft if it is there

I got the 100,

I also just got off the phone with the clinic that mom and I visit. They sent a request back to see what they can do.

Since you have asked about her pft, you have my anxiety going up a bit. Are you going to point out the differences in her results to mine or do you have something else in mind to stress me until you tell me that which comforts me.

You too are family, I come back to you because of trust and the care you give.

Not sure of Kgs. it says 81.6 kgs. I have a stomach pressure pushing up into lungs after eating no matter what size meal. I must shrink it to get breathing back like it use to be but the rest part is not good for weight loss, may take up exercise in swimming pool. that burns calories and is comforting
