Suggest Treatment For Breathlessness On Exertion, lack Of Energy And Drowsiness

default
Posted on Wed, 25 Feb 2015
Question: Lacks stamina. Needs a nap most afternoons. Breathless on exertion. Inactive. (Asthma diagnosed 1968 when displaying acute allergy to cats. Inhaler very rarely used now). Thirsty but not markedly so. Needs to lose weight.. (bordering on obesity as bmi is 32) Eats healthy food but probably too much of it! Non smoker. Very limited alcohol intake - Retired professional. Married. Husband recovering from heart surgery but doing well now after a lot of complications. A traumatic 2014 because of this and problems with children and grandchildren.
Q: Why am I so tired and lacking in energy, and what's likely to be the reason for the breathlessness? NB: heart disease is present in my side of the family though mainly affecting the males. Is this a lifestyle issue or could there be an underlying condition?

Brief Answer:
Hypothyroidsim/Heart disease/Anemia

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mam,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic!

I understand your concern.Your symptoms such as breathlessness on exertion, lack of energy and drowsiness can be related to diseases such as Hypothyroidsim,Anemia or any heart disease.

Hypothyroisdism is very common in women these days which leaves you with such symptoms.I would suggest you to go for a Thyroid profile test to rule it out

Second thing can be low hemoglobin that is anemia which also is very common in women.Going for a blood test to look for hemoglobin will give you a confirmed diagnosis.

Heart disease can also be a cause in your case looking at your age and family history. It causes breathless on exertion.Long standing anemia can also cause heart diseases. It is important to go for an Electrocardiogram and Treadmill test would show any underlying pathology.

Hope this helps.Feel free to ask more.
