Suggest Treatment For Bronchitis And Cough In A Child

Question: My 14 y/o daughter has not been feeling well for the past three weeks. It started with a syncopal episode in school. Her pediatrician was not so concerned since she had just gotten her period and was under a lot of school stress which she gets anxious about. We did a Neurologic and Cardiac work-up anyway just to rule out why she fainted. They were unremarkable. Since then she complains of feeling tired, nauseous, and not able to go to school. We did blood work which showed elevated esr, 48. No other results were concerning. A follow-up blood test showed the esr at 46. She developed a cough which the ped diagnosed as bronchitis and prescribed antibiotics. We hoped that the antibiotic would help get her back to normal but this morning again, she woke up, washed up, but felt too nauseous to go to school. She is an excellent student and I do not suspect she's just trying to get out of going. I would greatly appreciate any professional input! Thank You!

Brief Answer:
Can be a generalized viral infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The feeling of tiredness and feeling nauseous can be due to stress, weakness or a generalized viral illness. The raised ESR without any other abnormal tests is not worrisome and does not indicate any serious issues.
The syncope can be due to fall in BP, hypoglycemia, dehydration and inadequate electrolytes(sodium and calcium) in the body, postural hypotension, blockage of arteries supplying blood to the brain esp. the carotids, anemia, vasovagal attacks or underlying neurological conditions.
I advise her for
Try taking out some time to do yoga
Have plenty of water
Take calcium, iron and B complex vitamins for few weeks
Avoid hot and spicy food. She can take an over the counter anti emetic to decrease the nausea.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
