Suggest Treatment For Bronchitis, Elevated BP And Labored Breathing

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Apr 2015
Question: I had bronchitis and was treated with antibiotics. I did not get better, saw my physician again and he ordered an Advair inhaler, in addition to the Proventyl inhaler. I got worse with labored breathing and elevated BP. I was in the hospital for 3 days. The first day I was given 100mg of Lasix, which removed a lot of fluid. It was not measured. My breathing was not better until the end of the third day. I was given a bronchodilator every 4 hours. My heart tests were all normal. My ejection fraction was 70. I did not have any clots. I am supposed to see a pulmonary specialist in May. My BP is 150/105 after taking Lopressor 100mg and cozaar 100mg. I am diabetic and controlled with Metformin and Glypzide.

Brief Answer:
Consult pulmonologist and get done PFT.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your situation and problem.
Since your cardiac work up is normal, no need to worry for major cardiac illness.
But your blood pressure is very high , especially diastolic pressure, and this can cause acute left ventricular failure with normal ejection fraction (EF).
So strict control of blood pressure is needed in your case.
For the exact and correct diagnosis of bronchitis , PFT ( pulmonary function test ) is must.
PFT will also tell you about severity of the disease and treatment of bronchitis is based on severity only.
So better to consult pulmonologist and get done
1. Clinical examination of respiratory system.
2. PFT.
And strict control of blood pressure is needed too.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.
