Suggest Treatment For Bronchitis In An Infant While On Livolin And Azee

Hospitalize in case of feeding problem or severe distress
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM
I have gone through the details and do understand your concern.
Bronchiolitis is one of the most common cause of respiratory distress in this age.
Depending on the severity it can be categorized as mild, moderate and severe.
Mild to moderate cases in which there is no feeding problem, cough is not severe enough to cause holding of breath, respiratory rate less than 60 and no severe retraction;can be managed well at home.
As it is mainly a viral infection, only conservative management is sufficient for mild to moderate condition.
It has been seen that nebulization with hypertonic saline is more effective than livolin in case of bronchiolitis.
I usually prefer to nebulize with hypertonic saline(available as 3% saline in chemist store). It helps in decreasing the edema and inflammation of airways by osmotic mechanism. Livolin contains salbutamol a beta receptor agonist and babies of this age dont have matured beta receptor. So even if you are using livolin I suggest you to mix it with 2-3 ml of hypertonic saline for better effect.
You may continue giving Azee.
Please ensure that the baby's room is humidified properly.During winter with use of room heaters the air get dried which leads to drying of secretion and worsening of distress. You may hang some wet cloths in your room or put water filled containers for proper humidification.
Nurse baby preferably in sitting position at an angle of 30-40 degree with head and neck elevated to avoid chance of chocking(chances of aspiration are high during feed in case of breathing difficulty).
If you find that baby is not feeding well,is very irritable/lethargic or there is worsening of distress with increase in respiratory rate/retraction of chest wall consult your doctor immediately as baby may need hospitalization.
I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more query.
Wishing for your baby's speedy recovery.
Regards
