Suggest Treatment For Bronchitis With Persistent Cough And Inflamed Throat

default
Posted on Sat, 26 Jul 2014
Question: I was diagnosed with bronchitis about four weeks ago and prescribed two separate rounds of Amoxicillin, which did not seem to help. I continued to cough, throat felt inflamed, and both eyes began to ooze a mucus-like discharge. Phone appointment with doctor, who said I had viral infection and prescribed antibiotic eye drops. Is clearing up, but now I am experiencing pain under right breast (feels like a bruised or cracked rib, which I don't believe it is - just comparable pain from past experience with same from fall from horse). Pain below breasts, hurts to press on it or over-exert. Constant malaise. Do I need to go to ER or will symptoms subside with time?

Brief Answer:
Yes , you need to go to ER get Xray chest done.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX ,
Thanks for the query.
As per your clinical history it appears as you are having upper respiratory tract infection which has spread into lower respiratory track.
If I were your treating doctor, I would advice you change of antibiotic amoxicillin to Macrolide Antibiotic azithromycin , antiseptic mouthwash twice daily , Plenty of fluids , combination of Antihistaminic levocetirizine + Leukotriene antagonists Montelukast , mucolytic cough syrup 3 times & anti inflammatory , analgesic Paracetemol + Ibuprofen combination. Continue antibiotic eye drop .
You can discuss this with your treating doctor.

I would prefer you get these done after a chest X-ray at the earliest. Therefore visit the ER is a worthy option.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Regards.
