Suggest Treatment For Bronchogenic Carcinoma Followed By An Interstitial Lung Disease

default
Posted on Sat, 21 Jun 2014
Question: I have been diagnosed with interstitial lung disease due to cancer surgery on my right lung where they removed the frontal, upper, lobe. As a result of that surgery my left lung had a severe, adverse reaction to the surgery which kept me in the critical care unit for 3 weeks because of my blood oxygen dropping like a lead ball when I moved. That was in Sept 2012. I was just diagnosed with the interstitial stuff and have been told a great deal of info and have read a great deal of info but I cannot find any info on life expectancy. I have been told mine is terminal. Can anyone give me a general timeline?

Brief Answer:
Odds of survival are low in terminal cases

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking!
Bronchogenic carcinoma followed by an interstitial lung disease is a troublesome issue and it needs a lot of care. Now considering the condition the best case scenario for survival odds is mentioned below.
mortality rate for such case is roughly approximately 50% at 5 years. means people with such interstitial lung diseases have the odds of survival of 50 in hundred after 5 years provided no other associated comorbidity compromises it any further.
And the case of terminal bronchogenic CA makes the survival odds for 5 years pretty thin of just 5 % in 5 years. These are just statistics and as they say books follow patients.Patients don't follow books. Lets hope you become an exception to these statistics.
Stay in touch with your oncologists and pulmonologists and let them help you to the best of their abilities.
Meanwhile following guidelines will help the issue of Interstitial lung disease.
Smoking cessation should be top notch priority.
Good pulmonary hygiene is important.
Supplemental oxygen therapy may be useful for significant hypoxemia (oxygen saturation [SaO2] less than or equal to 88% or PaO2 < 55 mm Hg while breathing room air either at rest or upon exertion).
removal from inhalation exposure is mandatory.
If a toxic medication is suspected, its discontinuation is mandated.
Respiratory infections should be promptly treated.
Pulmonary rehabilitation may improve exercise tolerance and quality of life.
Pharmacologic therapy with corticosteroids (eg, prednisone) and/or cytotoxic agents for their potential steroid-sparing effect (eg, cyclophosphamide, azathioprine, methotrexate) may be indicated for this .
Other immunosuppressive or antifibrotic agents such as colchicine, cyclosporine, and D-penicillamine may have a role and should be considered for the management.
exercise and pulmonary rehabilitation and antioxidants therapies would help too.
I hope it helps. Dont forget to close the discussion please.
May the odds be ever in your favour.Hope for the best
