Suggest Treatment For Brown Spots On Chest And Red Spot Near Navel Region

default
Posted on Tue, 6 Oct 2015
Question: Hello. I have some brown spots on my chest, from being in the sun. It has been there for over 8 years. It doesn't itch nor does it bleed. However, I noticed a few new little brown spots/dots showing up. I also noticed one little red one lower on my side, just left of belly button. None of them are very obvious. However, I am wondering if I should get it looked at, (or) should I b concerned? I have uploaded a few photos for you to analyze for your advice. Also ~If I do need lab work, is there a price included in this site, that would cover lab tests, if I were to go in and get it checked out? The bigger brown dot that you see, is a little bit raised. The rest of them are smooth. None of them are rough or chapped. Is this cancerous? Or normal? None of them have ever been a scab. They just kind of appeared out of no-where.

Brief Answer:
Cherry angioma and dermatosis papulosis nigra

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I have gone through your query and I have also reviewed the Images.

The red spot near your belly button is nothing but a cherry angioma.
It is an absolutely benign skin lesion and it is quite common to have a few cherry angioma's on one's body.

The brown spots on chest too does'nt seem like anything serious to me.
They seem like Dermatosis papulosa nigra (DPNs) to me which are flat or sometimes raised, soft and sessile growths. DPNs are benign.

Therefore you have nothing to be concerned about though it is a good practice to get your skin examined, once in 6-12 months, for any supicious moles and growths, specially in fair skin types and in those with a lot of sun exposure.

The site does not provide any help regarding lab work.

Thank you for your quick response. I also have a question about some raised bumps on both of my elbows. I can send u a photo, but I may have to start a new forum with you. It appears to be ringworm or fungus or something. It's not bleeding, but it has spread over time and doesn't seem to go away. I have tried apple cider vinegar..both drinking it...diluted & applying it to a cloth and then to the elbow. What can I get to treat this? It has been there for months. Maybe, 11-12months now.

Brief Answer:
Tinea; Antifungal cream for 2-4 weeks; Preferably also an oral antifungal

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

Reviewed images in another thread.
Just a repetition, it seems like tinea/ fungal infection in these images.
A prescription topical antifungal e.g terbinafine 1% cream, twice daily along with a prescription oral antifungal e.g terbinafine 250 mg tablets once daily for 2 weeks would be adequate.
Alternatively I would suggest you to try an topical otc antifungal cream e.g clotrimazole 1% or miconazole nitrate 2% cream, twice daily for 2-4 weeks, as already suggested.
