Question: My sister had a nasty fall 2 nights ago. She hit the front of her arm in the bicep. It is badly bruised & hurts and she cannot lift it withut help. I ask her to use cold packs but she chose to use heat. My question is from the symptons I have given you, I believe she needs an xray and could she have a fracture. She does not want to go & believes it will heal on its own.

Brief Answer: she surely need a x ray Detailed Answer: Hello, I think your sister should get a x ray done. As she is 77 years of age and at that time because of age and menopause bones are weak and brittle. You are saying that she is not able to lift her arm, I am afraid she might have sustained a fracture around shoulder. An x ray will help us to diagnose it. I would also recommend you to apply ice there as heat is not good for fresh injuries. I hope this answer will help you to convince your sister for x ray. Meanwhile ice application and paracetamol tablet will help her.Keep her shoulder in a sling to prevent stress on shoulder. Thanks and take care.
