Question: Hello!
I am very healthy, workout wisely, eat mindfully. Today, as I am driving, I have an itchng *attact* on the top of my left tight. I gently scratched the unbearable itch through my yoga pants. Then when I was able to stop, I put a cold cloth on the itching part of my thigh, and that seemed to calm it down. I came home and put Calamine lotion on. Went to yoga, came home to shower and notice tremendous bruising where the itchiness had been hours ago.

This has never happened before. What are your thoughts.

Thanks for contacting Ayurveda with your health concern and possible causes which go with your history is/are:

2. Thigh rash [sweat rash due to tight clothing]
3. Cholinergic urticaria: rash appearing on thighs after running/walking/or taking hot shower [present]
4. Fungal Infection [jock itch]
5. Dry skin [perspiration/dehydration]
6. Any other skin infection?

PS.

I. Is Itching accompanied by skin [eczema/ psoriasis] or systemic [hypothyroidism/ dermatitis/sugar]

I. Itching creates a scratch reflex and scratching can damage the skin only to make it further itchier.

Hi Dr. Sood,
My biggest worry is the large amount of bruising that appeared after the itching was under control. I know that I scratched gently, so I am concerned.

What could be the cause of the intense and sudden onset of the itching followed by such terrible bruising?

Much thanks!

Brief Answer:
psychosomatic treatment

Detailed Answer:
Dear

Thanks for reverting back.

Possible explanation could be:

When someone scratch through clothing, it is the pressure more than scratching causing the bruise. I.e. pressure enough to cause breakage of capillaries under the skin
I would suggest you to kindly see a doctor near you for clinical examination [if you are so much concerned], till then:

I. Vitamin C is best option: either in form of medicine or in diet
II. Remain stress free much as possible since skin problem are of psychosomatic origin.

PS. possibly combining of heat [shower] with intensity of scratching and thinness of skin could have resulted in bruising.
