Suggest Treatment For Bump At The Base Of Penis

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Dec 2015
Question: A few months ago, I had a bump at the base of my penis that showed up right after sex right where the condom became skin. I had two comprehensive test for STDs done and both came up negative. It has happened again with the same results in the same exact spot. There is no gestation period after both instances and it appears to go away within a week of appearing. Could it be a STD? Is there a chance to be HIV+, even though I had a condom? And what could it be if it is not an STD?

Brief Answer:
Possibility of infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Welcome to the site!
I am Dr V XXXXXXX a Sr Consultant in Dermatology.

I have noted the details and this appears to be related to an infection that became active due to sexual activity.

As your tests have been within normal range, I still am inclined to inform you that a lot depends upon the battery of tests, and the stage of infection for which they are designed.

For the present, there is a good probability that following measures should help:

1 Good hygiene

2 Refraining from sexual activity for a week or two

3 Noting carefully the events during this period of one to two weeks

4 Using Mupirocin, an antibacterial cream twice daily

5 Anti-allergics like Levocetirizine 5mg a day

I believe this will help you get back to normal very soon. Please make sure that your partner does not have any infection. An STD cannot be ruled out unless all the tests have been done, and some of the tests have to be done repeatedly as all STDs do not show up immediately after the first symptom. For example, for HIV, tests done after an interval have more value. Condoms are not fool-proof protection against STDs. The first impression that one gets about the stated problem is that of a bacterial infection, not necessarily transmitted through an infected partner.

Best wishes, always!

If my results come back negative for STDs when would you recommend me getting a second test? The results are currently pending and theblood was drawn 8 days after intercourse.

Brief Answer:
Please share the reports

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Welcome back!

It is good that the tests are already done. Please share the reports so that further suggestions can be provided.

Depending upon which tests have been done and what the reports are, I would recommend getting them repeated or going in for fresh tests after a few weeks to few months gap.

Hope you are doing well.

Best wishes

Thankfully the results are all negative! Given the results, could you tell me which test i should take a few months from now? Certainly i will take the HIV because of incubation, but if the results were clearly in the negative, e.g. the herpes results, do i need to take that test, or any others a few months from now?,

Brief Answer:
Here are the required tests

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Welcome back.

I am glad that your reports, attached, are within normal range.
You only have to undergo testing for HIV and TPHA after the window period.
In the meantime, just be observant and report any unusual activity.

For Herpes genitalis, immediate retesting is not required.

Best wishes.
