It can be inflammatory swellings of eyelid glands

Hello
Welcome to Health care magic.
I am Dr. Dadapeer K, an ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.
I reviewed history.
It seems from the history that your 5 year old son is having a bump on the eyelid.
The most common cause for bump on the eyelid is inflammatory swelling of the glands of the eyelids like hordeolum or chalazion. These two require treatment by hot compression and use of antibiotic eye drops.
Chalazion is usually painless in nature whereas hordeolum is painful.
Hence I want more details like
Duration of swelling
Associated symptoms like pain, redness...
The other rare causes like lid tumors need to be considered in case of swelling present from birth or within 6 months of birth.
Hence I request you to send details as I have mentioned and if possible send a photo of the affected eye so that I can answer more accurately.
Hope the information is helpful to you.
Thank you
With regards

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.
Intermittent swelling can be because of allergy related inflammation of the eyelids.
If it is localized, red in color and typically increasing on bending down or crying then vascular causes have to be considered.
I am waiting to see the photos to confirm the diagnosis. I have not received photos. Please try yo resend the photos or contact our technical team for any assistance.
I will get back to you after seeing the photos.
Thank you

It appears like hemangioma.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.
I saw the photos attached with the question.
The swelling localized with prominent vessels and it suggests vascular cause like hemangioma. However the diagnosis needs to be confirmed by examination.
Capillary hemangioma is seen in this age group.
If you notice increase in swelling on bending down or crying it confirms the diagnosis.
However no need to worry as most of the tines it will resolve by theatre of 6-7 years.
If the swelling is progressive causing drooping of the eyelid or cosmetic disfigurement then it requires treatment by intralesional injection of steroids.
Please let me know whether it increases on crying or bending down and whether it is associated with pain.
Hope the information is helpful to you.

It appears like hemangioma.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.
Capillary hemangioma is painless and it increases on bending the head downwards or on crying. It can be reduced by applying pressure.
Hence by the image it appears like hemangioma. It is not a serious condition , hence no need to worry.
I advice you to consult your ophthalmologist for confirmation of diagnosis and followup with him.
Hope the information is helpful to you.
