Suggest Treatment For Bumps On Skin Near Neck

default
Posted on Wed, 13 Aug 2014
Question: Hi. I have two bumps under my skin on the left side: one is hard and behind my ear, the other is soft, bigger and on my neck. I saw a doctor about it and she said it was a lymph infection and prescribed antibiotics. Three days later, I am noticing a slight pain, also on the left side just at the base of my head. Is it connected and do you really think it's an infection or something else?

Brief Answer:
Lymph node swellings, will take some time to heal

Detailed Answer:
Hi

It looks like you have developed a lymphadenitis which is basically a lymph node inflammation . Such lymph node swellings can occur secondary to any mild infection.
Any sore throat or tonsillar infections or dental caries or oral ulcers can cause such lymph node swellings since there lymph nodes act as a body immune system to control the entry of infections.
Now you have already been prescribed a course of antibiotics along with anti inflammatory agents, so I would suggest you to just wait for the medicines to completely control the infection.
It is common for multiple lymph nodes to be involved and they can swell and become tender.
A short course of oral antibiotics along with anti inflammatory agents is all that is required in most cases.
So my advise would be to continue with the anti inflammatory agents a little longer even after the antibiotic course is complete so as to control the swelling and pain.
