Brief Answer:
Several causes and recommendations listed

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for asking at healthcaremagic.
Eye burning can be very uncomfortable but generally is not dangerous as long as you have no pain and no changes in vision. There are many causes of it also.

1. If you have had some contact with a chemical (especially if it has entered your eye) this might cause eye burning and make you feel very uncomfortable. Washing the eyes with plenty of water (sometimes eye lavage is needed in these cases) will help relieve the symptoms. Using the eye lubricant you are using would be advisable after that.

2. If you have an allergic reaction that is causing some irritation in the eye (allergic conjuctivitis) than your eyes can burn and feel itchy. It would be good to try some allergy tablets like Loratadine 10 mg at night for 3-4 days and see if there is a difference.

3. If you have any sticky yellow secretions in the morning than infectious conjuctivitis (mild superficial infection of the eye ) might be suspected. In these cases taking some antibacterial drops or ointment might help.

4. Sleep deprivation or working long hours with the eyes strained might also cause some burning in the eyes and trying to improve these might be helpful.

5. Dry eyes which are common with age is another cause. Continue using the Systanen drops as they do not hurt but might help if you are not producing enough tears.

6. If none of the above recommendations help or you have any vision changes or eye pain, you will need to see a doctor and check your eyes for other rare causes of burning sensation in the eye.

I hope this is helpful and answers to your questions but please feel free to reply in case more clarification is needed on this.

Kind regards,
