Suggest Treatment For Chest Congestion And Coughing

default
Posted on Fri, 13 Feb 2015
Question: I have the current flu virus with very thick chest congestion and incessant coughing. Its worse the last two days. What I'm throwing off is clear, though, not any color. Im sure this is viral, but my question is, could the
fluid be in my bronchioles and if so, do I need to see a doctor? When I breath the fluid gurgles audibly.

Brief Answer:
Would be good to see a doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for your question. It would be good to see a doctor. You are correct that the flu is viral and it is good that your sputum is clear. However, if you are having a lot of mucus (especially with the gurgling) you may need a brochodilator inhaler so that your bronchial tubes open up. When they have so much fluid in them they can set you up for getting a secondary infection like bronchitis or pneumonia. I suggest that you see a doctor soon. In the mean time keep using the robitussin, mucinex and advil. Make sure you are drinking enough water because if the secretions get thick they will be harder to clear. I hope you are better soon.
