Suggest Treatment For Chest Infection And Bronchitis

Question: I was prescribed DOXY-CYCL HYCL 100mg for a chest infection. I have read up a bit on it and I don't see anywhere where it is used for that. Am I missing something and would you use this drug to treat bronchitis?
Brief Answer:
can be effective against some bac that cause chest infections
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
Doxycycline belongs to the family of drugs called tetracycline.
Doxycycline is not commonly used for respiratory tract infections (upper and lower airway chest infections) but it does treat at least 2 of the bacteria that can potentially cause these infections- strep pneumonia and h influenza
Because it can treat these bacteria, if your infection is related to either of these common bacteria then it should respond.
You can consider using the medication as prescribed and monitoring your reaction to see if your symptoms improve.
I hope this helps , feel free to ask any other questions

Why would I be prescribed prednisone? I did not receive any xrays or blood work just received the prescription. However, she did look at my throat and ears and listened to my lungs.
Brief Answer:
reduces the chest inflammation
Detailed Answer:
HI
Sorry about the late reply
Prednisolone is prescribed because it is thought, in some persons that it would help with coughing by reducing any inflammation in the chest.
Even in persons who are no asthmatic, there can be increased responsiveness in the chest as a result of an infection. This increased responsiveness can contribute to coughing by some closure of the airways and increased mucus production.
The prednisolone would help with this.
