Diabetes and pulmonary tuberculosis.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Your dad is having pulmonary tuberculosis with pleural effusion (Lt) and diabetes. Diabetes often makes a person prone to infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
It is quite possible that your dad is also under a short course of cortico-steroid for pleural effusion along with AKT-4.
Steroid can offset diabetic control. In such case sugar needs to be controlled with Insulin injection.A combination of regular and intermediate acting insulin twice a day ( e.g Inj Mixtard 30:70) before meals is often sufficient to control blood sugar. Sometimes ,in addition basal insulin like insulin glargine (e.g Inj Lantus) is often added to achieve glycemic control.
Dose titration is needed to avoid low sugar level.
