Question: My son is 12 years old and he has diagonied with Charaimal formation type 1 for last three years. We are regularly going for checking and taken MRI. But there no chaangesin body and Dr. Has advised for wait and watch policy. Once in a year we e doing MRI. Pl let me know what r possibilitiesfor doing surgery. Till how many years the skull will grow

I would like to reassure that he may not require surgery. The complications in Chiari malformation type I is very rare, and surgery is almost never needed.

Moreover, the chances of problems occurring are more common in early childhood, as Chiari malformation is a developmental problem, and is present since birth.

We need to watch for 5-6 more years (until age 18) to be 100% sure that surgery is not needed, as head and neck growth can occur upto that age.
