Suggest Treatment For Child Not Walking At The Age Of 1 Year

Question: doctor my baby boy is one year old now, but cannot walk yet and he never crawl but sitting normal. he was born with jaundice and he never open eyes at birth untill after one week he open eyes and his eyes are Very tyni, his head is bid big, he was born over weight 4.2kg by CS and at one year his weight is 17kg. Doctor please What is the cause of delay in his walk and Why he never crawl. And What is the solution. please find the attached picture of the baby.

Thanks for providing clinical photograph. From the picture the head definitely looks big for 1 year old baby, whether it's nonormal or not can only be commented by measuring the head circumference.

Every baby is unique and achieves development milestones at different age. There is no hard rule that exactly at this age a a said particular milestone should occur. The delay in crawling and standing is possibly related to large head and weight of baby. Ideally the baby should triple it's birth weight by 1 year of age , his weight is more than 12 kg which is on higher side.

I would suggest you the following

1. Thorough clinical examination and assessment by Pediatrician

2. Ultrasound of skull to rule out Hydrocephalus

3. Complete blood count

4. Urine routine and microscopic examination

hydrocephalus is done on diffefent occation and the rÃ©sulta shows no sign of hydrocephalus. but doctor his head ressemble that of his uncle. i dont know if genetic factor can be genesis.

If Hydrocephalus has been ruled out then there is no cause for concern. It is more likely to be inheretent development delay. Also do consult Pediatrician, if the examination is normal there is no cause for concern.

Doctor regarding my one year old child, we consulted local neuro surgeon he said he is we should do MIR scan because he is suspecting facial down syndrome. But we are doubt about that because at birth and two month later we did ultra sound scans several time but no doctor ever suspect DS. but he has history of cytomegalo virus at birth.

Ultrasound is just a screening tool and may not rule out all the abnormality. As the head looks large it is important to go ahead with MRI scan . I would also suggest you to get Karyotype done.
