Suggest Treatment For Chronic Constipation Inspite Of Being On Pain Medications
Question: I take 8 mg of Jurnista each day for chronic pancreatitis plus hydromorphine hydrochloride elixer (1:1 4mils at a time - XXXXXXX dose 16 mls per day). As a result I have chronic constipation. I was prescribed Bisacodyl 5mg and I take 8 per day. Have been on this regimen for about 8 years. In the past year the Dr has added Lactulose and I take 40 mls per day. Whew! What is the best time to take the Bisacodyl and Lactulose please and given that I already eat a high fibre diet, am I ever going to be able to come off these meds???
Brief Answer:
Likely to need meds for a long time
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have read you history.
Since you have chronic pancreatitis and need to be on opiod analgesics, constipation will always be a problem as long as you are on pain medications.
The Best time to take Bisacodyl and lactulose is at bedtime.
Only high fibre diet is unlikely to help. In case your requirement of Jurnista and hydromorphine elixir reduces or stops then there is a chance that meds can be discontinued.
Hope this helps
