Suggest Treatment For Chronic Dry Lips While On Carbimazole
Question: Yes I've had chronic dry lips for about 6 months . I've tried everything to help.
I think increasing Endep from 25 mg to 50 Mg daily has caused this .
My Mouth Is Not Dry.... Just lips!
My eyes were dry aswell but gel eye drops have helped.
I'm on a low dose of carmibozole for overactive thyroid . All of my levels are normal at the moment.
I eat a lot of yoghurt , almonds and drink 3-4 tea or coffees per day
Not excessive .
I walk for 30-40 minutes most days in cool climate .
I drink 6-8 glasses of water per day.
I'm going through copious amounts of lip balms every week applying 6-10 times a day sometimes more.
Vaseline and pawpaw only dry lips out more and last only 10 minutes.
I get most relief from Dermal ip balm but seems to be having less effect of late .
Feel like I'm going insane
What else can I do?.
I'm a 54 year old woman . I have never had this problem before

Brief Answer:
Explained
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome
I appreciate your concern
Based on your description and history, it's likely to be cheilitis which involves inflammation of the lips and may include the perioral skin.
In my patients in addition to lip balms and vasline , I advise zinc, folic acid and vitamin b complex supplementation. Paraffin locally also works very well in dried and cracked lips.
Please consultyour doctor before taking any medication
Wishing you best of health
Thanks
