Question: Hello Doctor, Hope you are doing good. I am having a chronic issue of releasing gas from my back very regularly. This is creating uncomfortable environment at work. I feel it very difficult to control as well. I had consulted a general physician earlier more than few months back and was told that its Flatulence which happens due to increased use of proteins and not getting digested.

I am around 62 kgs little under weight based on bmi. Sometimes my food intake is not on time (especially dinner) but I feel I have a balanced diet.
Sometimes, I feel this is due to having snacks like biscuits during the course of the day which would cause this problem.

Please help me on this.

Brief Answer:
As discussed in details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
I have read your history and understood your concerns.
The causes of passing gas are as follows:
- Some foods that your intestines can not digest fully and the byproduct is gas also.
- Typical infections like that of organisms on groundnut that can cause gases.
- Imbalance of intestinal bacterial flora wherein the gas producing bacteria overgrow the normal inhabitant.
- Aerophagia meaning inadvertent swallowing of air, usually occurs when in stress and anxiety.
- Aerated drinks, preservatives in foods and beverages.

This will give you an idea which is your cause. Please let me know.
I would advise you the following:
- Stool test
- Tests of blood and urine.
- X-ray of the abdomen
- Ultrasonography
- Clinical evaluation by a Gastroenterologist.
- A course of an antibiotic and metronidazole.
- Add on probiotics and multivitamins
- Strict avoidance of the cause that you have to find with the help of the answer I have given above.

I hope this answer helps you to find the cause, get it corrected and get cured of the problem that you have.

Stop all the causative factors.

Detailed Answer:
Prevention is better than cure.
Hence stop all the foods and beverages that you might have noted to cause or increase the problem.
Prescriptions are not allowed on internet as you need a valid prescription. I have suggested the treatment above, please talk to your Family Doctor who will also help you to get the investigations and writing the proper medication on a valid prescription.
