Suggest Treatment For Chronic Gastritis

Question: Hi,
Looks like I have some digestive problems. My stool is sticky and normal in colour. I have to go to pass stool at least three times a day and each time I have to spend twenty minutes. All the times it is sticky stool. This is effecting my day to day activities. This is for more than a year. Whenver I take antibiotics for some other reasons like sinusitis etc. then stool is not sticky and it is normal. I have been trying probiotics sachets from a month but not much use.
Suggest any medication or foods to avoid sticky stool.
Thanks,
xxxxxxxxxx

Brief Answer:
Response to antibiotics is suggestive of Reccurent gastroenteriris.

Detailed Answer:
Hello xxxxxxxxxxxx
Have seen your details.
See going through your narration there are basically two possibilities,
1)Recurrent chronic gastroenteritis( response to antibiotics are suggestive of it).Possibilities are there that you either have a bacterial or protozoal infection in gut therefore symptoms are there off and on.
Initially i would suggest you to go for a stool test to check for ova and cyst in stools.
Therapy with Metronidazole 400mg thrice daily (Anti protozoal)
Tab Ciprofloxacin 750 mg twice daily should be taken for 7 days.
Cap B complex once daily XXXXXXX VSL#3 twice daily( probiotic).
Follow a strict BRAT diet for 7 days.
: The BRAT diet i.e bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast should be your mainstay The diet has foods that are super easy to digest, contain a lot of carbohydrates to give you energy and provide you nutrients.
Bananas: Bananas are easy to digest and replace lost nutrients like potassium. They also strengthen stomach lining.
Rice: Avoid brown rice as it has too much fibre, but white rice is good for sensitive stomach and provides energy from carbohydrates.
Applesauce: Provides energy due to carbs and sugars.
Toast: Avoid whole-wheat bread because fibre is difficult to digest. White bread is easier to digest.

If not relieved in 7 days then we would investigate you on lines of Irritable bowel syndrome.
In IBS there is some problem in the functional ability of the gut that leads to the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. The structure of the intestines is normal, only functional abnormality occurs in this condition. So frankly speaking (IBS) represents a functional disorder of gastrointestinal tract without the presence of an anatomic defect SO in lay mans language till date we are not sure whats the exact cause of this problem.

So initially lets go for an ultra sound abdomen and stool test and revert back to me after 7 days.
Thanks.
