Detailed Answer:
Hello Mr. XXXXXXX
Welcome to Health care magic.
I am Dr. Shama and I will be answering your question.
I reviewed your history. It seems you are diagnosed with chronic idiopathic urticaria. Since all the investigations are normal it is labelled as idiopathic. Most commonly it occurs as an allergic reaction to food, medicines, parasites, insect bites, exposure to cold/hot environment and in few cases it is autoimmune in nature.
The treatment of the condition is by use of anti-histamine drugs and steroids.
Steroids are used when the condition flares up or when it is not responding to steroids.
Defcort contains Deflazacort a relatively newer steroid drug and it has got lesser sided effects as compared to the older molecules like prednisolone. Hence it is more safer than other steroid drugs and you can use it as recommended by your doctor.
Since your condition requires use of steroids you can use the drug. The things to be kept in mind are
1. Use Defcort only when it is required like when the urticaria flares up and is not responding to other drugs.
2. Keep the dosage as minimum as possible. 6 mg is the smallest dose and it can be used.
3. If you are using the drug for more than 3 weeks then you need to taper the drug slowly.
4. Frequent examination to look for common side effects of steroids with your doctor.
Hope I have answered your question and the information is helpful to you.
Thank you
With regards
