Suggest Treatment For Chronic Nasal Inflammation And Congestion With Eustachian Tube Dysfunction

default
Posted on Tue, 9 Aug 2016
Question: I have been suffering from clogged ears for some time. I also have a continual back drip. I have been to the doctor's twice and antibiotics were proscribed both times. Despite all of this, the condition continues. While there is no pain, I do feel dizzy on a regular basis.

Brief Answer:
Supportive care

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking
I read your question and i understand your concern. Clogged ears, post nasal drippings and repeated use of antibiotics seems like you have chronic nasal inflammation and congestion with likely ear tube ( eustachian tube dysfunction or blockage involving ear as well thus the clogging.

Now instead of barrage of antibiotics, i would suggest a visit to an otorhinolaryngologist, let them have a look at the ears to rule out any wax or cerumen blockage, examine the middle ear and assess the inner ear functions to rule out the dizziness cause of inner ear like labyrinthitis etc. Also nasal passage assessment to sort out allergic, or anatomical causes as deviated septa of nose.

Apart from it, supportive care for a while with decongestants, antihistamines, home remedies like warm comforting beverages, plenty of fluids intake, avoiding allergens and triggers, use of chewing gum to help the airways and ear tube remain patent and open.

I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. I will try more supportive care for a few days. If the situation does not improve, I will seek medical assistance.

Question: What about the use of a Netti Potty or some other way to flush out the ears.

BTW: One the nurses that I saw told me that while there was no wax buildup, there was water behind the ear drum. Can I deal w/that myself?

Brief Answer:
Yes for neti pots, no for self management

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back to me

Yes neti pot is a good old fashioned way of neti pots and is recommended and help with the nasal irrigation and clearing of clogged sinuses. However i would not recommend self management of ear wax and fluid buildup behind ear drum, for that we have specialist called otorhinolaryngologists, the one i already recommended.

I hope it helps.
