Suggest Treatment For Chronic Neck Pain
YYYY@YYYY
Degenerative cervical spine, Osteoarthritis cervical spine
Detailed Answer:
Hi there.
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
Thanks for the query.
The stiffness of neck due to spine problems could mostly be attributed to degeneration of the spine bones and possible osteoarthritis.
This causes stiffness of the neck, inability to bend forward and also restricted range of movements in other directions. You may also feel some pain radiating to the hands via the shoulders associated with tingling and numbness.
Physical therapy would help to some extent along with hot water bottle application to relieve the muscle spasm. Since it is a degenerative condition, medication will also be necessary to relieve the pain due to associated muscle spasm and arthritic symptoms. You can also try pain killer and muscle relaxant medication like Tablet Diclofenac with Thiocolchicoside combination. Apply a gel of the same medication combination.
Avoid forward bending, lifting weights, smoking or alcohol. Avoid sleeping on a thick pillow which could aggravate symptoms.
Kindly consult an Orthopaedic surgeon for a thorough examination and necessary investigations like XRay or MRI as required for a proper diagnosis and appropriate management.
I hope I have answered your query.
I will be available to answer your follow up queries.
Thanking you.

Yes, Prescription medications

Hi there.
Thanks for the follow up query.
Yes, Thiocolchicoside which is a muscle relaxant will require a prescription by a licensed medical practitioner.
Diclofenac is a pain killer which can be prescription only in most countries. You can try Paracetamol/Acetaminophen 500mg thrice a day, which does not require prescription.
It would be wise to consult an Orthopaedic surgeon who will examine you and may prescribe the same or equivalent medication.
