Suggest Treatment For Chronic Pain, Gas And Constipation

Most Drs and I agree its probably bacterial overgrowth, but the go to anti biotic Rifaximin is extremely constipating which is fine for most w/bacterial overgrowth as they have loose stool unlike the 30% or so like myself that have constipation....had colon out in 2011 and continuing to get worse , particularly pain wise. Any suggestions please
Please specify what you mean with "colon out"?
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone through your medical history carefully and noted that:
- you are having a problems with chronic constipation
- you had colon out in 2011 : can you please specify why your colon was out?
- you are having tremendous gas and pain
The very first thing is to understand why you are having constipation? Is it because of any intervention you had (as you as saying colon out?)? Or is it because it is not working properly, it is working slowly.
Colonoscopy is advised to evaluate colon function.
I also advise to:
- avoid foods that would cause constipation and gas: potato, chips, boiled eggs, dairies (yogurt, cheese), banana, etc.
- avoid drinks that would increase gas: carbonated drinks, etc.
- take simethicone to reduce bloating
- take laxatives for shorter periods (Senna supplement)
- take lactulose to soften the stool
- take psyllium supplement to increase fiber content of feces, thus, easing bowel movement.
- increase water intake
Hope it helped!
