Suggest Treatment For Chronic Pain In The Body While Having Fibromyalgia

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Dec 2016
Question: Chronic pain not due to fibromyalgia. Had bone spur and bulging disc compressing spinal cord S/P ACLFC 5–6. S/P vertebral plasty a T 12 for compression fracture, herniated disc of L 2–3 and spondylolisthesis of L4 – five with chronic sciatica. Torn rotator cuff right shoulder. I have heard every day since separate respond to loose in 1987. I do not allow pain to put me down unless it is literally impossible to walk. Then I go on steroids until I can walk again. I am very sensitive to many medications. I had a cardiac ablation done due to an extra pathway and when I started on the gabapentin , It took me a year to get to the dose they tried to start me at, as soon as I took 600 at one time I developed an arrhythmia. This is controlled with 12.5 mg of Lopressor 3 to 4 times per day. It's a trade off for being able to walk. I cannot take enough pain medication to come close to stopping the pain I take enough so that every thought in my head isn't how bad I hurt.

I no longer work but I have adopted two children so I'm always taking them places for activities and such, my 85-year-old mother is doing chemo and so I'm always taking her to doctors and such, and since I can no longer work as a nurse, I have been a volunteer guardian ad litem (Casa) for nine years . I was a foster mom for four years before that but stop fostering when my children were adopted. I actually worked in psychiatry and taught cbt and stress management I have no problem with going to see a psychiatrist not sure what they're going to be able to do for me that pain management, a sleep specialist, and my family doctor/internist can't. I was diagnosed with Crohn's in 1983 and have always control this without medication.

I know my triggers and I also learned to eat through the pain rather than stopping eating which is why I went to the hospital originally i've basically trained myself to see that as hundred pains because I know what will happen if I stop eating. I experience premature menopause in my 30s. I'd like to tell people I'm in good shape for the shape I'm in LOL I guess this dissertation was to try to explain why I don't think this is fibromyalgia. I know my own body better than most and I'm not one to freak out over a new symptom. But honestly this is bizarre. I thought perhaps it was something along the line of a migraine as you can't see anything in total darkness at least I never have. The fact that I can feel my heartbeat in my ears is not new due to chronic congestion because of allergies but hearing it and seeing it to me is new and strange.

Brief Answer:
Question seems not complete.

Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully, actually I read it three times.

However I can not seem to find any description of what actually was your visual symptom. You describe in a precise and detailed manner your other health issues and I thank you about that, but not your new symptom, only a hint at the very end about a visual issue. It almost seems that you've accidentally canceled or forgot a paragraph. If you go back to reading your question I believe you will realize that.

So please try to explain again what visual symptoms you are feeling so that I may at least try to provide a helpful opinion.

I remain at your disposal looking forward to hearing from you again.

Recently have had generalized body aches but no fever. Have had several "waves" of nausea. Thought coming down with flu though did have flu shot. About a month ago.

Last few nights in darkened room realized when opening my eyes seeing a cloud of "dust" by light of tv

I should say I have narcolepsy so normally fall asleep as soon as I go to bed, even after having slept in chair

Tonight dog was barking which I don't normally hear before my husband but I had gone to bed early and when I went back to bed realized could hear my heart beating and even with my eyes closed I would "see" pink diffuse light which would fade. I have a tendency to clench my jaw, due to chronic pain and realized that it increased the noise. I can't see this in bright lights and while have heard this before blamed pressure from allergies. Know you can't give diagnosis but should I see an opthomologist or family doctor? I do have mild hypertension which again I feel is a result of pain as it fluctuates generally increasing when I am in more pain.

Thank you for the additional information. Sorry for not answering earlier but your post had come just as I had gone o sleep (Europe, time difference).
Judging from your description it seems like the visual symptoms are not present all the time and the heartbeats which you describe to hear as well. That would go against a neurological or eye issue. They do not sound like a transient ischemic attack and other issues would cause persisting symptoms. So I wouldn't rush to the eye doctor if you have no other vision abnormalities, such visual phenomena are common without indicating an illness. The feeling of hearing the heartbeat can at times be in the setting of some vascular malformations of the brain, however again it would be persistent, only in that case it requires some attention and brain vascular imaging.
On the other hand those heartbeats could be in the setting of an episodic heart arrhythmia such as paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, so for that I do suggest you check up with your family doctor for rhythm studies starting with an EKG and perhaps more prolonged monitoring 24-48 hour Holter EKG. Such arrhythmias may also affect blood pressure and explain the visual changes in some patients due to altered blood supply.

Let me know if I can further assist you.
