Suggest Treatment For Chronic Prostatitis

Posted on Tue, 3 Mar 2015
Question: Hello Doctor,
I've been suffering from Chronic Prostatitis for alomost 6 months and would like to have suggestion for the proper treatment.
Before I go any further I would like to give a brief history around the treatment given to me so far.
On 2nd July 2014 I immediately started getting pain in my right testicles. I was very worried so I approached to nearby hospital to consult an Uroloigst. He asked me to go for sonography for testicles, kiddeny and baldder test. The report came totally clean and then he examined my prostate manually my inserting finger into my anus. As he pressed my prostate I felt pain and he immediately said that it's prostatities.
Following are the symptoms initially diagnosed for prostatitis.
1. Pain in the lower abdomen.
2. Irritation in the bladder.
3. Urine leakage with frequent urination.
3. Anus fullness.
My doctor said that it's surely a prostatitis and it's really a challenge to cure this as there is no cure for this proper cure for this problem.
Initially he put me on Abdora + Cipro 250mg for 60days. This medication gave me some relief, but didn't cure me completely. After completion of 60days I met my doctor and told him that I still have discomfort with following symptom. However, symptoms were not too aggressive as earlier this time
Symptoms reports after 60 days.
1. Intermittent bladder irritation.
2. Intermittent urine leckage.
My doctor told to continue medication for another 60days.
After almost 4 months symptoms were improved and but not totally gone away. I met my doctor again in the month on Nov and this time he changed my mediciation to Veltam F + Septran.
I continued this new medication for almost full Dec and surprisingly I seen good improvements. However, during the start of January I felt like some of the symptoms were coming back like:
1. Intermittent bladder irretation
2. Urine leakage with few drops
I met with my doctor again and he told me to have a patience as these treatments takes longer to cure and there is possibility that some of the prostatitis symptoms comes and goes during the treatment.
As of Feb 2nd I'm still continuing Veltam F + Septran. I still have ballader irritation which is not quite sever, however, I do feel urine leckage with few drops intermittently.

This is whole history of treatment I have taken so far. I can confirm that since the time I started taking treatment from my doctor I did get relief to much extent, however, prostatitis symptons were never cured. It was always like come and go basis.

Since it's quite long and obviously this prostatitis caused me much metal depression I thought to share my expression with an another Urologist to get their view on this. Please let me know what your thoughts around this treatment and if you have any recommendations from your end.

Brief Answer:
No definitive and complete treatment for chronic prostatis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for posting your query at healthcaremagic

I have gone through what you have written and am sorry about your problem. Unfortunately, as your doctor rightly said there is no definitive and complete treatment for chronic prostatitis.

However many drugs have been proven useful relieving symptoms and improving quality of life. These include alpha blockers, anti inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, tricyclic-anti depressants, physical therapy, trans-urethral microwave thermotherapy etc.

You can discuss about these with your doctor.

Hope it helps!

Hello Sir,

Thanks for responding back. Couple of more queries.

Q 1:Can you please let me through medical experience that there is a hope that this prostatitis will be cured at some time or I would need to be depended upon these medications for more time.

Q 2: I'm also concerned that these medication shouldn't have any adverse affect to my health, however, my doctor told me that medication he has given is of very low dose and shouldn't have any much impact on that. Can you please let me know your thoughts,

Q 3: My doctor also advised the following. Please let me know your thoughts on this.

1. He asked me to do masturbation more frequently to release fluid out my body.

2. He also recommend that sex activities also help in improving the symptom.

Thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Every medication has some kind of adverse effect

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Yes, there are many cases which will be cured sometime.

I'm also concerned that these medication shouldn't have any adverse affect to my health, however, my doctor told me that medication he has given is of very low dose and shouldn't have any much impact on that. Can you please let me know your thoughts.

Every medication has some kind of adverse effect. But benefits should outweigh risk. Your dose will surely be adjusted not to harm in long run.

My doctor also advised the following. Please let me know your thoughts on this.

1. He asked me to do masturbation more frequently to release fluid out my body.

2. He also recommend that sex activities also help in improving the symptom.

Yes. I agree with him.

Thanks!

Thanks sir for all your responses.

I also wanted to ask few questions regarding safe intercourse. My partner & me ensure to keep our private parts hygiene and we do use condoms while doing intercourse. However, I just have a doubt that is there a possibility that if I don't use condom, then I could get some infections from my partner's vagina. This prostatitis scared me a lot, so I'm not sure if any intercourse without condoms can increase of getting any infection again. I've not heard that couples who do intercourse with out condoms get any infections from female partner, however, there could be some risk associated with that one.

Can you please let me know if I'll plan do intercourse with condoms what speical measures I should take care of. Should I use any gel or something which should reduce of catching any risk of infection. Please advise how I do safer intercourse if I don't use condoms.

Brief Answer:
Just make sure that your partner does not have any sexually transmissible infections.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

If your partner does not have any sexually transmissible infections, then there is no need of any gels or condoms. But if you are not planning then it is always recommended to use a contraceptive method. Infections will not be transmitted without partner having an infection.

Just make sure that your partner does not have any sexually transmissible infections.
