Suggest Treatment For Chronic Sore Throat

Posted on Mon, 12 Jun 2017
Question: Hello,

I have had a chronic sore throat going on 3 years now. It is horrible. I have changed everything about my lifestyle for the LPR diet, and it just isn't cutting it. I have a negative restech and a positive peptest. I am thinking I need my lingual tonsils biopsied, as I've already removed my palatine tonsils. Is this much more painful or a lot less painful than a tonsillectomy? How do I get my ENT to do this? What is the procedure, and if this is a chronic infection how do I get them to biopsy to tell me what the heck I am dealing with! Thank you!!

Chronic pharyngitis

You are having chronic pharyngitis. It can be due to a throat infection or chronic nasal infection or laryngopharyngeal reflux.
As you said you have got your tonsils removed,i think you should get a xray paranasal sinuses done to rule out any nasal cause. Lingual tonsils are least involved and before getting them removed all other causes must be ruled out.
Please tell me is there any history of smoking or tobacco use?
Send me the pictures of your throat so that i can suggest you better.
Lingual tonsillectomy is done under general anaesthesia and not done so frequently.
Take an antacid once daily and avoid spicy foods and alcohol. Drink plenty of water. Avoid a sedentary lifestyle.
Any further queries are always welcome.

Take care
Thanks and regards

I have done all treatments for LPR. I don't eat after 6pm. I don't have dressing on my salads; No fatty meats, no chocolate, no caffeine. I have tried PPI's, I have tried gaviscon advance and I still have all the same symptoms. I have had a CT scan of my sinuses, and of my neck. I have had 3 MRI's of my soft tissues of my neck. Some lymph nodes are enlarged, and my lingual tonsils have been noted as slightly enlarged for two years now. I have never drank alcohol and never had spicy food. I smoked for a few years, about ten years ago. Are there cases of chronic viral infections? If so, what can be done?? How can I get a proper diagnosis???? and treatment!

I have seen close to 12 ENT's. And there's millions of people like me on the internet that just aren't getting proper answers.

Chronic pharyngitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for the information.
Chronic pharyngitis has many causes and to reach a single diagnosis one needs to rule out the possible causes one by one.
Please send me the pictures of your throat and also your latest CT paranasal sinuses pictures.
These can help me to reach a confirmatory diagnosis. If you have got done any throat culture done, please send me that report too.
Thanks and regards
