Suggest Treatment For Cirrhosis, Portal Hypertension And Liver Damage

Prognosis varies.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Welcome to HCM.
Cirrhosis is a condition of irreversible damage to the liver caused by alcohol (and viruses). Because of cirrhosis, the liver function of detoxifying the blood will derange, resulting in accumulation of toxins which can lead to complications.
Portal hypertension develops when blood can not easily flow through the scarred liver, resulting in back pressure, causing enlarged spleeen and ascites (fluid in the abdomen)
First of all, stop taking alcohol (if any). There are certain drugs like beta blockers and nitrates that can reduce portal hypertension and ease symptoms.
Reduce salt intake and excess fluid intake. Your doctor will order certain other investigations to stage the disease and then offer you the treatment.
The prognosis depends on many factors and will be assessed by the results of various other investigations that follow. In general, the prognosis for early cirrhosis is not bad but established cirrhosis with complications will have poor prognosis. Recovery is not possible with the existing liver, but liver transplantation is an option where you can have good quality of life.
For further details, your Gastroenterologist is the best person to explain.
keep posting your queries, if any.
All the best.
