Brief Answer:
Your child is probably suffering from a viral infection.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Most often, such episodes of fever are due to viral infections. It is generally associated with an allergic component and hence relent syrup (antiallergic) is helpful. It can be given for 3-4 days and then discontinued. It can be given on and off as per requirement. T-minic is also an antiallergic. So any of the two will suffice.

Viral infections take 5-10 days to resolve, irrespective of use of antibiotics. Antibiotics are ineffective in case of viral infections. Sometimes such viral infections are associated with superadded bacterial infections for which some doctors prefer to give antibiotics. Whether antibiotics need to be given, can be determined by getting a routine blood count done. Increased leucocyte count would indicate that antibiotics need to be given. If begun, please complete the course of 5 days of antibiotic. Antibiotics can be given safely to infants as per requirement.

Giving steam inhalation should help. Just sit with the child on your lap and place a source of steam before you. The water vapour will be in the air and automatically the child will breathe it in. It will help in diluting the cough.

Hope that helps.
