Question : Hi my son is 8.5 months old having severe cold (running nose and nose blockage) can you please suggest the best cold syrup to give him.

I have gone carefully through the details and understand your concern. Most often cough and colds are due to viral infections and antibiotics are ineffective in such cases. Give some antiallergic syrup like cetirizine or Benadryl. These are the best syrups to be given to him. Avoid cough suppressants containing codeine or dextromethorphan. These do more harm.

Give steam inhalation to your child. Water vapor will reach deep inside and would help in diluting the cough and thus would provide relief.

Please be patient, it should spontaneously resolve in 5-7 days.
