Suggest Treatment For Cold And Nasal Congestion In A Child

Can be given.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. Most often such infections are due to viral cause and antibiotics are ineffective against viruses. Yellow or green nasal discharge does not indicate a bacterial infection. The colour occurs due to the presence of the dead epithelial cells of the nasal mucosa. It is only in cases of the superadded bacterial infections that antibiotics like augmentin work but the underlying viral infection follows its own course.
Such infections are often associated with allergic component and giving antiallergics like benadryl helps. Celestamine (Betamethasone/ Dexchlorphenamine) is a combination of antiallergic and steroid and can help in reducing the nasal congestion. It can be given but in that case benadryl would be no longer needed. Be sure not to use Celestamine on long term basis.
I would insist you to give her steam inhalation. The water in form of vapour reaches deep inside and helps in diluting the cough, thus providing relief.
Let me know if I could help further.

Dolopar will help in bringing down the temperature.

Thanks for writing back.
Celestamine can be given. Dolopar contains acetaminophen which needs to be given if and when the temperature rises above 100F. The medicines will not interact adversely. Be sure to give the steam inhalation as suggested.

It is good to hear that she is recovering. Give Celastamine for another 2 days and then stop.
Use chlorhexidine mouth wash and that would take care of the foul breath.
Feel free to write back.
