Dear cardplaya,
I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns but you don't need to worry.
It is common to cough blood tinged sputum after having a common cold.. This occur due to inflamed throats that may have been injured by continuous coughing.. A soothing throat lozenges will help.. Warm salt water gargling and warm fluids as soap will also relieve the inflammation..

Thank you for responding.
I actually haven't coughed a great deal (I would say a mild amount each day), though my chest is clearly congested. Is this still consistent with inflamed throat? I have noticed the blood in the phlegm twice over a week/week and a half, each time after clearing my throat soon after waking up in the morning.
What other symptoms should I be on the lookout for, if any, that may be of concern?
Do you recommend seeing my GP, and/or asking for a CT scan given that I've already had a recent chest x-ray?

Brief Answer:
Warning signs
Detailed Answer:
dear cardplaya, blood tinged sputum is usually not concerning in young adults that are otherwise healthy. there other causes that lead to bloody sputum that maybe more serious. other causes include acute bronchitis , tuberculosis , pneumonia and lung tumors. I will list below the warning signs. if you experience any of these warning signs, see your doctor as soon as possible.. the warning signs include 1) chest pain 2) fever or dizziness 3) worsening shortness of breath 4) loss of Apetite or unexplained loss of weight 5) if you cough up large amount of blood
it is not necessary to have a ct since you don't have any other symptoms .. you can do it just for your peace of mind
