Suggest Treatment For Cold, Cough And Hoarse Voice
Question: My son is 15 months old and for the last week to 10 days he has been teething badly and 3 molars have appeared. he has gotten a cold at the same time (he always seems to) but now he has gone hoarse! He has lost his voice, he can babble a tiny bit but his voice sounds completely different. He cannot cry now as he makes no sound. He hasn't been crying any more than usual and he has just eaten his food but he is also coughing quite loudly :( What should I do?
Brief Answer:
Viral laryngitis
Detailed Answer:
Hi...he seems to be having laryngitis and an associated upper respiratory infection....mist probably viral. The best solution to regain his voice is to give voice rest.... But this is not possible at this age. If he is well and active otherwise.... It's most probably a viral illness.
I suggest you to use some over the counter antitussives... And if it doesn't settle in 2 days or if he's having fast breathing and respiratory distress, you need to consult your pediatrician.
This sort of illness usually settles in 3-5 days.
