Suggest Treatment For Cold, Sneezing, Runny Nose And Allergic Bronchitis
Question: My wife is 14 week pregnant. She has history of allergic bronchitis. She met a pulmonologist a month back, informed him about the pregnancy and she has been taking budecort 200 and Duolin inhalers based on his advice. Today my wife visited a general physician as she was having cold, sneezing and running nose. She was told that budecort 200 must 'not' be used by pregnant women. Kindly advice if this inhaler should be stopped. The doctor whom she met today has now suggested malidens 650 and Avil 25 for cold and he suggested to continue duolin inhaler. Pls advise if these medications is safe for my wife.
Brief Answer:
Can be taken
Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir, thanks for trusting health care magic.
I would like know the frequency of inhalor intake by her.
In case she used the inhaler off and on like once in a week then nothing to worry and she can continue without any problems.
All other medicines are safe for both mother and baby.
Though budecort can be used more often also but that will require a very frequent antenatal visit and ultrasound.

She takes both inhalers twice a day as suggested by the pulmonologist. Is it safe?
Brief Answer:
Benefits outweigh risks
Detailed Answer:
This is safe if she is symptom free with this as her minimal dose titrated by seeing her response.
But she needs a proper level 2 anomaly ultrasound in end of December to see the formation of proper facial structures of the baby and proper gain in weight.
After that a regular antenatal visit to your gynecologist and pulmonologist for proper monitoring is must.
Steroid inhalation is very safe as mostly very less levels of steroids reaches the blood to reach baby as it acts mainly on lungs delivered via inhalation route.
So it is given as the benefits outweigh risks.
Take care.
